The Serbian school “Jovan Miletić” was founded in 1782. Rich and respectable Serbs of the time had a strong awareness of the need to cultivate national identity. One of the most deserving was Jovan Miletić, a wealthy merchant from Sarajevo, who in his will left 24.000 florins for the foundation of the institute for education of Serbian youth. Numerous generations of Serbs from Trieste have attended this school from its foundation to the present day.

Since 2011, the school has been following the official program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Serbia.

The Serbian Orthodox Religious Community also organizes school activities for preschool children.

This school year, 96 elementary and middle school pupils and 65 preschool children were enrolled.
